Jon Pardi Releases Surprise New Cover Album
Jon Pardi gets a lot of credit for keeping country music alive. However, sometimes I'm not sure if he gets enough.
On this new surprise record that most of us didn't know was coming, Pardi covers his "heroes" such as George Strait, Keith Whitley, Joe Diffie, Merle Haggard, Dwight Yokam, etc..
"Rancho Fiesta Sessions" starts off with a 1966 song written by Merle Haggard, 'The Bottle Let Me Down,' which is a song all about drinkin' your face off but still being unable to get that certain someone off your mind. Following that is a Dwight Yokam hit from 1986, 'Honky Tonk Man.'
The next two songs on the album are from George Strait. Originally written by Willie Nelson in 1963, Pardi delivers an amazing version of"Right Or Wrong" and follows it up with the 1982 hit, Marina Del Rey, written by Dean Dillon and Frank Dycus.
Skipping over the cover from the late and great, Joe Diffie, Jon also provides tremendous covers from the likes of Keith Whitley and Tom Petty.
In my opinion, the best cover on this record is "Nothing Compares 2 U." Maybe because of that saxophone but Pardi delivers the song almost better than any other cover I've ever heard.
As Jon says at the end of "The Waiting," all I have to say is Fuck Yeah. Well done, brother.
